Champagne Fleury – Blanc de Noirs

While visiting with friends yesterday, this fine champagne was served: Champagne Fleury Blanc de Noirs Brut.

A 100 percent pinot noir champagne, with the base wine from harvest 2014, supplemented with 20 percent vins de réserve, and stored on oak casks.

All wines have had the malo.

The cuvée was bottled in May 2015 and disgorged in October 2019.

The sur lattes period has been almost 4.5 years. The dosage is 4.8 gr/litre.

So the label could also have been labeled Extra Brut, but apparently Jean-Sébastien Fleury prefers ‘Brut’.

Champagne Fleury is rightly proud that it was the first in the whole of Champagne to choose for biodynamics, a choice made in 1989.

Champagne Fleury Blanc de Noirs

Champagne Fleury is located in Courteron, deep in the south of Champagne, just 10 kilometers from the border with Burgundy (Côte d’Or). And you can taste it very well in this so-called basic cuvée. Here, in this part of the Côte des Bar, in the Aube, the soil does not contain chalk, but can be characterized as Kimmeridgian (clay) soil- just like the best parts of Chablis. The climate is also a little milder than in Reims and the surrounding area.

You can taste it. Fresh and elegant and above all soft and generous with delicious aromas of small red fruit, countered by some lime. Well worth it.
